After such a difficult winter it’s hard to imagine a crocus ever breaking through the ground. But they do, managing to stun us all with their soft pastel hues and gracious lines. That’s the thing about Spring– its a time of renewal, and with that, perseverance.
Webster’s dictionary defines renewal as “beginning something again, to make new, fresh or strong, especially with more energy or enthusiasm.” The very definition reminds me of the Eastern Star.
Envisioning a neglected fishing boat as a luxury yacht may be difficult for most people, ( including me), but not Captain Nicholas Kutscera. Having discovered the 85 foot vessel languishing at a dock in North Carolina in 1997, he saw something extraordinary hidden beneath the many layers of peeling paint and decided she was worthy of another life. And another life she got!
It took three years, but after an extensive renovation with a small but talented team, Nick transformed the old hull into a truly elegant yacht for charter—Motor Yacht Eastern Star. Rich mahogany, polished brass and designer furnishings replaced the old benches and bunker freezers. She was launched in 2000 and her first trip up to the Newport Yacht Show won her first place at the Concours de Chef competition. (Thanks to Kim Hicks, our first chef and graduate of the French Culinary Institute.)
It’s hard to believe that Eastern Star will be starting its 15th season this month. And while Captain Nick may have discovered a few new gray whiskers, Motor Yacht Eastern Star is more stunning than ever.
As always, updated interiors, fresh paint and varnish keep the yacht looking fabulous. But this season, with her revised US Coast Guard certification for up to 80 passengers plus 10 crew, Motor Yacht Eastern Star has undergone another major “renewal” to her upper deck. The dining area has been enlarged, new carpeting has been installed, and the mahogany bar has been redesigned with oak accents and mirrored shelves. With her ambient lighting and gently swaying palm trees, she is a vision at sunset.
We at Eastern Star Yacht Charters take great pride in our mahogany beauty. And there’s no better way to celebrate a renewal of your own—whether it be a graduation, a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary, a bar or bat mitzvah, or a sweet 16. We invite you to come aboard and experience her gracious accommodations, exceptional cuisine and service. You can relax knowing our professional crew will care of every detail to make sure your event is a truly memorable one.
We’ll even show you a photograph of the old fishing boat that once was!
