Not Letting Hurricane Sandy Ruin a Special Celebration

Not Letting Hurricane Sandy Ruin a Special Celebration

The dedicated Eastern Star staff was in the midst of planning an intimate wedding that was going to be celebrated on one of our charter yachts. Although we are always prepared to tackle any challenges that come our way, the challenge we had to face on when Hurricane Sandy hit was unlike any we have endured before. Like many eastern seaboard residents, we were stuck without power and heat for nearly two weeks.  In the midst of cleaning up trees and electric poles, and assisting our neighbors with meals and a place to stay, we gradually pieced our lives together, at least  enough to give Dalina and Manny the wedding they had planned for so many months.

The young couple had flown all the way from Dubai to NYC just to get married and there was no way we could let them down. Our esteemed staff came together on November 3rd and did what we do best: arrange a wonderful wedding ceremony. Captain Nick performed the heartfelt ceremony, while Chef Conrad prepared a beautiful buffet dinner with a lovely selection of freshly prepared passed hors d’oeuvres. The wedding cake (we had to call in another baker until our baker got his shop back) made just what we asked for; a gorgeous French buttercream cake that was decorated in a Swiss dot filled with mocha mousse between layers of chocolate sponge.

Music played, guests danced and toasted the newlyweds. For 5 hours it was as if NY were whole again.
